Science is a work in progress and so is education.
Hey!
I’ve been a a teacher for nearly a decade in a secondary science classroom. I’ve taught chemistry, middle school earth science, but my passions are life sciences like biology and anatomy & physiology.
I love the HOW.
HOW am I going to teach this topic?
HOW will this impact my student’s learning?
HOW can I be more efficient?
HOW can I leave work at school?
HOW can I be a step ahead of my students?
Teaching is a hard job; everything is always changing! What’ve I’ve learned over nearly a decade in the classroom is that you have to adapt and evolve to changing times. My students are very different from the ones I started with my first year and that’s because the world has changed a lot in that time, but I’ve also changed a lot in that time too.
I’ve learned to teach my content in a way that feels genuine and comfortable to me. Comfortable doesn’t mean I press the repeat button every year; it means I decorate my room to feel like my space to share more of who I am, I put up the streamers in the doorway, I dramatically explain safety protocols and lab procedures. Things that at the end of the day I can reflect on and know that it was all genuine.
I’m excited to share what I’ve learned during my time in the classroom and keep you updated as my practices continue to evolve.
